I missed that: Review of Star Trek Beyond
When Star Trek Beyond came out last year I just didn't feel like watching it. Star Trek: Into Darkness was fine but didn't get me hyped for another iteration. So now finally i got around to watch it.
Plot
“After stopping off at Starbase Yorktown, a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, is destroyed by an unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. With the crew stranded on an unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves fighting against a ruthless enemy with a well-earned hatred of the Federation and everything it stands for. Only a rebellious alien warrior can help them reunite and leave the planet to stop this deadly menace from beginning a possible galactic war.”
Star Trek Beyond is one of those movies, that I enjoyed watching but didn't really leave any lasting impression. The action is fine, the story is kinda flat but ok enough to justify the action, the old characters are great and do what they have done in the last 2 movies. The visuals too are up to standard, maybe even better than that. I really think they should have won best make-up over suicide squad.
Sadly the new characters didn't do anything to me. Idris Elba as the main villain Krall is one of those forgettable baddies. Sofia Boutella as ass kicking alien Jaylah is more than flat. she looks cool and kicks ass, but that kind of it.
I also didn't really like that for the most part of the movie there was no Enterprise. As we see in the trailer the ship is attacked and crashes on a planet. The surviving crew is then stuck there and have to fight for their survival.
In summary, Star Trek is a fine movie to watch on VOD, not necessarily to own. its a serviceable sci-fi action flick that you watch and forget.
My rating 6.5/10
